What is RPE?

In sport and exercise, the rating of perceived exertion (RPE), is a frequently used quantitative measure of perceived exertion during physical activity. In your exercise programs, the RPE will indicate the intensity at which you should work during the exercise. As an example - your program may indicate that you complete the same exercise each week with an increase in RPE, therefore you should increase your intensity when performing the exercise such as increasing your weights or treadmill speed.
